Monday 29 May is Memorial Day in the United States. These photos were taken by my sister-in-law in Boston Common over the Memorial Day weekend, where volunteers put up 37,000 flags to represent every service member from Massachusetts who has lost his life in service since the Revolutionary War.
Such sacrifice rises above politics. It deserves everyone’s respect. And it deserves to be honoured and remembered.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
