When you’re a kid, pillow forts are precarious and elaborate constructions of cushions, pillows, and improvised supports that your imagination then turns into castles, caves, fortresses, or hideaways.
I’ve now learned that when you’re an adult, pillow forts are giant piles of pillows you build up like some prehistoric ritual mound on whatever surface you intend to camp while you recuperate from the latest toddler germ battle that you inevitably lost. This is the pillow fort on our pull out couch from where I plan to direct all weekend activities to the best of my ability. TV babysitter, here we come.
